Type Locality and Naming

The Sixth Detachment of Yunnan District Division Brigade was named in 1980. The named section is located in Yangqigou-Pingzhai, Qiubei County, Yunnan Province.

Lithology and Thickness

Upper part is gray and dark gray medium to thick quartz fine sandstone interbedded with mudstone, and the Lower part contains pebbled unequal sandstone. In the Middle, there are dark gray, gray thin-middle mudstone, calcareous mudstone interbedded with silt-fine sandstone, calcareous mudstone interbedded with thin marl. Lower gray, dark gray - massive fine quartz sandstone with her thick mudstone, on the bottom for 44 m thick gravel anisometric sandstone.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

It has a conformable contact with the underlying Zhonghekou Fm (= Hekou Fm in this lexicon usage)

Upper contact

The contact relationship with the overlying strata is unclear.

Regional extent

The Pingzhai Fm is distributed in the Nanpan River basin area at the junction of Yunnan and Guangxi, and are well developed in Pingzhai and Yuxia at the junction of Qiubei County and Shizong County in Yunnan.

Fossils

It contains bivalves Halobia rugosa, H. superba, H. convexa, H. comata, H. cf. omeishanensis, H. cordillerana, H. substyriaca; Ammonoids Trachyceras douvillei, T. deprati, T. costulatus, T. cf. aon, Paratibetites clarkei, P. tuberculatus; and phytolith Neocalamites sp.
